Billiards or Pool, Is There a Difference?

Some people call this popular sport billiards while others prefer to call it pool. Is there really a difference between the two terms?

Many people are more familiar with the term billiards and for this reason, the term is considered generic. The meaning of this word differs depending on the geographical region where it is being played.

As of present, billiards and pool have almost the same meaning. However, when it comes to technical matters, the two words are very much different. When you're playing billiards, you will notice that the balls used are smaller and the balls have only three colors , red, white, and yellow. The billiards table has no pockets and this is the main difference.

On the other hand, many people are quite interested in pool games. Some of the pool games include Cut Throat, Nine-Ball, and Eight-Ball. When you play pool, the table has six pockets. So you see, pool and billiards are different.

Both billiards and pool are considered cue sports. Generally, the word billiards is used by many people but this does not mean that they are referring to a billiard game because it can also mean pocket billiards or pool. The playing style also determines what is being played.
