Caring for Your Pool Equipment

A lot of people don't seem to understand how important it is to maintain the integrity of the billiard equipment. They don't respect the owners rules on proper handling of each and every equipment. Worse, they don't realize how expensive it is! Now, for those who know how vital it is, here are some of the basic tips on how to polish each and every piece included in the billiard set. Be very vigilant when other people use your equipment.

Pool table care

You should not:

Encourage eating or drinking anywhere near your table for a little smudge or drip of whatever it is they are ingesting can cause moisture that could crumple the cloth or scratch it.

Allow dangerous shots like the masse because you risk your tables felt from being damaged.

Store or leave your billiard balls on your table for they might dent your cushion.

Let anyone sit on the wooden sides of the table.

Chalk over the pool table.

You should:

Clean your billiard table after the entire game by brushing the felt from one direction to another and not in a circular motion.

Position your table in some place where sunlight can't directly hit it because excessive heat can produce a humid effect which can wrinkle the mat.

Cover the table when not in use

Clean the finish with a dry cloth to prevent dust from forming on it.

Billiard ball care

There is only one simple rule when caring for a billiard ball. You should always keep them in tack and keep them in one place if you are not using them. Also, clean your balls with a damp cloth then wipe it with a dry cloth afterwards and apply wax made for billiard balls to bring out its luster.

Cue care

You should not:

Put your pool cues hanging beside exterior walls, heated appliances, doors or ventilators.

Make your cues lean on walls for a period of time to prevent from warping.

You should:

Store your cue sticks in an upright position in a rack.

Clean them with soap then after rinsing, wipe it dry. You could also use a damp cloth. After drying, you can choose to polish them.

Accessory care

Accessories like caps, cabinets, billiard table feet, and other hardware should be cleaned daily using, again, a damp cloth.
