Your Pool Playing Stance

How to Perfect

If you're interested in playing pool or pocket billiards, you need to master or perfect your pool playing stance. This is a basic requirement if you want to become a good player, why? Well, without a proper playing stance, all your strokes will be inaccurate. You can't control the balls and this is very important to master before anything else.

It is better to teach a pool player who is just a beginner because as the clich‚ goes, you can't teach old dogs new tricks. Habits are hard to break so if you're a new pool player and you're still learning a great deal about this sport, it would be best to start things right. Practice the proper playing stance. This way, you'll get used to the proper stance, you will simply need to improve it later on.

A proper playing stance can be achieved if you're comfortable with playing pocket billiards, if you're well-balanced, and if you know how to correctly align the shots. This may seem difficult but if you started out using the appropriate shooting stance, you will encounter fewer problems as you play pool.

Here are a few pointers to perfect the pool stance:

1. As you approach the table, you should decide where to hit the object and cue ball. You must be able to sink the ball in the right pocket. In order to see the line of your shot, you need to line the body up. If you're right handed, you can follow this but if you're a lefty, try to reverse the instructions.

2. Place your left foot close to the table as you slightly bend your left leg. You can experiment on this in different angles until you find the most comfortable position.

3. Bend your body at your waist and form a bridge with your left hand. Do this properly to avoid back strains. Your right leg must be moderately straight.

4. The cue stick should be leveled as much as possible. This way, you can avoid miscuing.

5. Place your chin over your cue stick, down low as much as possible.

6. Try to do practice strokes; you see, practice makes perfect.

If you can't picture yourself doing these things, try to look at professional pool players and you will surely get it. By watching other people play pocket billiards, you will learn more. Try to welcome suggestions and new knowledge to improve your playing stance.
